I was reading Weet's post about getting back in touch with your physically active self and wondering how I am supposed to get back to a consistent exercise habit when my couch is so comfortable? But here's how I'm going to try: as a kid I took a wide variety of lessons including years dance classes, and they were fun. Luckily, I feel comfortable in fitness class settings--they take the guesswork out of getting a good workout. So I'm getting back in touch with my young, dancing self by going back to school. My first attempt at this is the Afro-Brazillian martial-art called Capoeira: it's like an acrobatic fight with lots of kicking. When you watch people doing Capoeira they look like they're fighting and break-dancing at the same time. There are a ton of kicks and cartwheels and if you get really good, a few gravity-defying maneuvers, like jumping up and then twisting in the air a few times before landing. I figured that the class at New York Sports Club wouldn't have me attempting moves from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but I was still incredibly intimidated to try it out. At the same time, how hard could it be, right?
