Pessagno Winery certainly has location, location, location, but it can also boast a winemaker fueled by a passion for excellence. This Santa Lucia Highlands appellation may be the new kid on the block, but its reputation for quality has been two decades in the making. The Pessagno name was rooted in vines before wines. Though the winery opened in 2004, the Pessagno vineyards were planted in 1991 with three low yielding clones of Pinot Noir, one of the best-suited grapes for the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. “Planted to the famous ‘La Tache’ clone of Pinot Noir, with origins from Burgundy, as well as several Dijon clones, these vineyards rival the best within the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation,” says Pessagno. Located on the northern end of the AVA, the Pessagno estate vineyards enjoy the company of such prestigious properties as Mer Soleil, Talbott, and Morgan Double L. “ONLY” TWO DECADES IN THE MAKING
