Le palais impérial Gosho fut la résidence des empereurs japonais à partir du début de la période Heian, en 794, quand Heian (la Kyoto actuelle) remplaça Nara comme capitale, jusqu'en 1868 et la révolution Meiji, quand elle fut transférée à Tokyo.
