Beach Wedding Reception on Sand

Beach weddings are changing the way couples are tying the knot. Unlike your cookie cutter wedding ceremony, beach weddings are so versatile because they do not follow a strict schedule. A beach wedding reception can be anything you want it to be. No assigned seating arrangements, no formal sit-down menus, no calendar of activities to follow. Guests do not have to wait to be told what to do next.

When planning your beach wedding reception, decide on a theme, the atmosphere you want to create, and the time of day you plan to hold your wedding. A romantic breakfast reception is ideal for a sunrise wedding. If you are getting married early afternoon, why not set up a barbecue fest on the beach coupled with exciting activities such as beach volleyball or sandcastle building.

Never hold a beach wedding reception at high noon when it can be really tricky to walk on hot sand. You may also want to set your chairs and tables on a section of the beach where there are few corals and shells and arrange the tents or canopies in such a way that they deflect the glare of the sun.

If you prefer an enclosed party venue, you can hire a framed tent with side walls and air-conditioning. Decorate your beach wedding reception with colorful linens, lanterns, and woven baskets for an Arabian Nights theme. Tiki candles, leis, and grass skirts are great accents to a Hawaiian or Caribbean wedding reception.

Whatever theme you are going to select, always have a backup plan in case your beach wedding reception gets rained out. If your party will be held along the shore, be aware of when the tides are high.

Serve food on a buffet table instead of a la carte. Buffet receptions are perfect for informal receptions and are often cheaper than sit-downs. If you are working with a restricted budget, avoid holding your beach wedding reception late in the afternoon when guests usually expect a heavy dinner menu.
