51 Georgia schools among nation's best

For the second straight year, 51 of the nation's 1,500 best public high schools are in Georgia, according to Newsweek magazine. The list is compiled using a ratio devised by Jay Mathews, an education columnist for The Washington Post.

The number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2008 is divided by the number of graduating seniors, according to Newsweek.

Schools on the list represent the top 6 percent of public schools in the U.S.

Walton High School is East Cobb is Georgia’s highest ranking school, earning the No. 90 spot. Twelve schools in Cobb County made the list, along with Marietta High School.
