Watching helplessly as flames devoured more than 225 square miles around Los Angeles, San Diegans recalled much too vividly the fear and anxiety experienced when wildfires devastated our county in 2003 and 2007.
It can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the threat of wildfires – sometimes to the point of complacency. Some people regard wildfires as part of life in Southern California and reason that there's little we can do to fend off the ferocity of Mother Nature.
But fire safety experts say all homeowners have a powerful defense: simple preparation.
