Stink Bugs

Stink bugs were originally found in East Asia and were not even reported in the United States until the year 1990’s. Stink Bug is a six legged insect that has antenna, triangular in shape, have wings, usually ¾" in size and has a brown, gray or dark green color. Stink bugs are in the order of hemiptera, it is sometimes called “pentatomids” from the family name Pentatomidae. Its name was derived from their unpleasant odor when you crush them or when they will protect their homes. As years passed by, Stink Bugs have been imported from Asia to Allentown and now they are increasing all over Pennsylvania and other bordering states.

The stink bugs were living by eating leaves, fruits and crops like soybeans. They also eat other pests like caterpillars and worms. The stink bugs particularly lived in orchards, garden and farms where they can hide in the grasses and trees. The fact is that stink bugs do not hurt humans, however they cause a lot of damage to crops and some plants. As the result, people affected by these invasive pests wants to get rid stink bugs.

As of now, The Department of Agriculture, farmers and the pest control Industry is still trying to find effective ways to control the stink bug infestation and one of the ways include looking at a wasp that lays its eggs inside stink bug eggs, killing the insects.
