New York is a hard-charging city, but it enjoys nothing more than a good laugh, which is why an upcoming comedy festival suits it so perfectly. The New York Underground Comedy Festival is nine days of pure Gotham-style comedy, with a slew of emerging and established comedians trying out their freshest material at clubs throughout the city. The festival has seen several breakout stars in the past, from Bonnie McFarlane of HBO's One Night Stand to Reese Waters, who took home the emerging comic award at the 2007 festival. Charlie Moreno parlayed his success into memorable appearances in such films as Anger Management and Two Weeks Notice. This year's festival includes such zany events as a Pajama Party at the Green Room on Bleecker Street, the Chick Show at the Gotham Comedy Club on 23rd Street, and the Funniest Reporter in NYC at Comic Strip Live on the Upper East Side. Among the most anticipated performers is Richard Belzer, who will perform with the Belzonics on Saturday, October 3 at the Green Room. There's nothing funnier than when an actor known for serious roles on Law & Order and The Wire steps out of character. Starwood has hotels throughout New York City, such as the stylish W New York - Union Square. [image via New York Underground Comedy Festival]
