If you’ve ever wondered about the health and safety implications of salon tanning, you’re not alone. And like many people, you may believe that tanning salons have the health of their patrons as a top priority. Not so, says a medical translator about American tanning salon companies. The fact is, that while tanning salons in Europe and elsewhere are heavily regulated, tanning salons in the USA operate without regulation or oversight. In addition, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has formally classified tanning beds, tanning lamps and other tanning devices as carcinogens.
Now, a New York representative has introduced a bill into congress that would expand the FDA’s regulation of tanning salons to limit the strength of UV rays emitted and the amount of time that patrons can be exposed.
