Cape Town: 2010 FIFA Football World Cup Host City

Cape Town: 2010 FIFA Football World Cup Host City

The commencing point of the world’s most amazing “Garden Route” and the most visually dazzling cities of South Africa is Cape Town - one of the host cities for FIFA World Cup 2010. The Islamic aura of Bo-Kaap, to the Edwardian buildings perfectly preserved standing alongside the tall & proud modern glass structures give this city its unique character. The most visited city of all, Cape Town has ample to offer nature lovers, gamblers, shop-a-holics and yes this year, football lovers. Cape Town happens to be one of the safest cities in this country, which is apparent when we see tourists freely roam around even in the wee hours of the night. PLACES TO VISIT: The crown jewel of Cape Town is the majestic Table Top mountain. This natural feature is visible from every nook & corner of the city. Cable cars run throughout the day, all days for tourists to access the peak from where one can enjoy the most incredible views of the city. Hermanus, the region where the Atlantic & Indian ocean meet, makes the most favorable places for Whale watching experiences. Regular boat tours are available for this activity from the V&A Waterfront harbor. Close by is the Two Oceans Aquarium, Maritime Museum and the historic harbor. Made in the 1970s, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront Ltd redeveloped the historic docklands has since remained the most bustling place for tourists & locals alike with casinos, hotels and shopping areas. From this very place tourists can take boat rides for Seal Landing. Robben Island is a must watch. The historic place has been used for multiple purposes however is most known for being a prison where freedom fighters like Nelson Mandela had been exiled. TRAVELING WITHIN THE CITY: Though traveling is safe within the city, public transport isn’t preferred for tourists. It is suggested that tourists make prior arrangements using car rentals, camping trailers through travel agents and or hotels. NIGHTLIFE & ENTERTAINMENT: Nightlife is better in this city than any other. The V&A Waterfront is the best place to be for it has some decent dining & nightlife options. There are ample of places to shop like Green Market Square, Green Point Market and Red Shed Craft Market offer the best brands to local crafts suiting every pocket and style. Don’t forget to buy some South African wine, counted amongst the best in the world. FIFA 2010 STADIUMS IN CAPE TOWN: Located close to the Table Mountain is the Greent Point Stadium which has been upgraded into a world-class, advanced gaming arena with a seating capacity of 70,000 spectators. Between 11th June 2010 & 24th June 2010, the stadium will host 5 matches in total. LIVING & ACCOMMODATIONS: For tourists, I would suggest Greent Point & Anchor Bay as the best areas of stay. From luxury bungalows to shacks, these places have ample options to suit your budget and are the closest to the stadium. Bo-Kaap & other areas aren’t far however have fewer options and will be filled up early.
