Marcel Marceau est Mort.

Marcel Marceau est Mort.

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "Marcel Marceau took up acting and then mime after the war and perhaps the anguish he portrayed on stage and the insight into the human condition he expressed was a form of expiation for the horror and inhumanity of war and a Cri de Coeur against the inhumanity of totalitarianism. Which is all very well but what I want to know about this great artist whose ambition was to capture the wind on stage is this; what were his last words?"

Steve Biko - Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika

Steve Biko - Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "Today we remember Steve Biko – murdered 34 years ago by a white racist regime which was then supported by all the “Freedom Loving Democracies.” The power of his life still resonates. The former medical student and founder of the Black Consciousness Movement is considered by many to be a martyr of the anti-apartheid movement. His life has been commemorated in the film “Cry Freedom” where Denzel Washington played Biko."

Don’t execute Troy Davis

Don’t execute Troy Davis

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "I stand with Amnesty and their Death Penalty Abolition Campaign to fight for the life of Troy Davis, who within weeks could be executed for a crime he may not have committed. There remain serious doubts of his guilt. His death sentence defies all logic and morality."

Martello Tower finally engages the French!

Martello Tower finally engages the French!

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "However, these shots were not fired in anger, this military response to an armed French invasion was a salute to the yachts, and their military escort, departing on the third leg of the Solitaire du Figaro single handed coastal yacht race. The shore batteries fired 3 blank shots to salute the French frigate, who whistled 3 times in response and the shore guns replied with the further traditional 3 shots. Waiting 200 years to do this was no fun!"

Happy Birthday Freddie

Happy Birthday Freddie

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "Today, September 5, would be the 65th birthday of British rock legend Freddie Mercury, the Queen frontman who died on November 24, 1991 from bronchopneumonia that resulted from a years-long battle with HIV/AIDS. He was 45-years-old. So, happy 65th Birthday to Freddie Mercury (Farrokh Bulsara - Gujarati: ફારોખ બલ્સારા). He is still here in spirit. He has been referred to as "Britain's first Asian rock star". In 2006, Time Asia named him as one of the most influential Asian heroes of the past 60 years, and he continues to be voted one of the greatest singers in the history of popular music."

Jacobite Express

Jacobite Express

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "The Jacobite Express is regarded as one of the Great Railway Journeys of the World and was voted Top Railway Journey in the World 2009 and 2010 by Wanderlust Magazine, due mainly to the stunning scenery through which the steam hauled Jacobite Express travels. The 84 mile round trip takes you past Britain's highest mountain, deepest loch, shortest river and most westerly station. "

Heracles to Alexander the Great at the Ashmolean

Heracles to Alexander the Great at the Ashmolean

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "We should celebrate the hardy, highly developed and remarkable Macedonian Kingdom which became the Macedonian Empire and truly changed the world. In just over eight years, in his capacity as king, commander, politician, scholar and explorer, Alexander led his army a further 11,000 miles, founding over 70 cities and creating an empire that stretched across three continents and covered around two million square miles. The entire area from Greece in the west, north to the Danube, south into Egypt and as far to the east as the Indian Punjab, was linked together in a vast international network of trade and commerce. This was united by a common Greek language and culture, while the king himself adopted foreign customs in order to rule his millions of ethnically diverse subjects."

Baddesley Clinton Hall

Baddesley Clinton Hall

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "The house itself is hugely atmospheric. The heirs of the Ferrers family spent 10 years attempting to transfer Baddesley Clinton to the National Trust and over the years much of the original furniture was sold to keep the wolf from the door. However some of the original fixtures have been reinstated and the Manor has been furnished and laid out in a style appropriate to its age. There are helpful and fascinating displays throughout as you go around adding depth and background to the experience. A particular mention must be made of the extremely helpful volunteer staff who are very happy to volunteer information and share their obvious enthusiasm for this unique slice of England’s history. So visit and enjoy a day out at one of the most enchanting properties owned by the National Trust. "

Docklands all the way

Docklands all the way

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place on 27 July 2012 and the Closing Ceremony on the 12 Aug 2012. 18 days later, the Paralympic Games (the second largest event of its kind in the world) will stage its Opening Ceremony. Odds are that many attending the ceremonies and events of London 2012 will be travelling on the Docklands Railway."

Le Meridien Art + Tech: Turin

Le Meridien Art + Tech: Turin

DaithaiC
DaithaiC : "The roof top test track at Lingotto was not a novelty or an afterthought, but an integral part of the manufacturing process. The Lingotto factory featured a unique upward spiral assembly line. As each Fiat was put together it would progress upwards through the building story by story. Each floor was sequentially designated to specialise in a major part of assembly. What would start on the ground floor as raw materials and individual parts became a running driving Fiat by the time it spiralled its way to the top of the building."
